Logging Services for North Idaho Landowners
Selective logging for private property owners. Nearly 50 years of experience harvesting timber the right way and leaving the forest better than we found it.
How We Log Private Land
The big industrial outfits log differently than we do. They show up, take everything they can, and move on to the next job. That works for industrial timberland. It does not work for private property where the owner has to live with the result.
We log private land the way private landowners want it logged. We select which trees to take based on the health of the stand, the age and size of the timber, and what the owner wants the property to look like when we're done. We're careful with the trees we leave, careful with the access roads we use, and careful with the ground we work on.
The result is a property that looks logged for a season or two and then settles back into being a forest. The way it should.
What to Expect From a Logging Job
The first conversation we have with you is about goals. Are you looking to harvest mature timber for the value? To clear an area for a new use? To reduce fire risk while you're at it? Most landowners want some combination of all three.
From there, we walk the property together and put together a plan. The plan covers which trees come down, where the timber goes, what the timeline looks like, and what the property will look like when we're done. We'll be straight with you about the value of the timber and the cost of the work.
When the job runs, we move efficiently but carefully. Most private land jobs take a few weeks, depending on size and access. When we leave, the slash is dealt with, the access roads are restored, and you can walk through the woods without tripping on debris.
Logging As Part of Forest Health
Done right, logging actually makes a forest healthier. Removing mature trees lets younger trees get the light and water they need. Selective harvest keeps the genetic diversity of the stand intact. And the income from a well planned timber harvest can pay for the rest of the work the property needs.
We've spent decades thinking about forests this way, not just about trees.
